The Ecology School is the First in the World to Demonstrate Compliant Living Community Vision and Master Plan

The Ecology School is the first in the world to demonstrate Living Community Challenge Vision and Master Plan Compliance, a hard-earned step in the process of becoming a Living Community, a program of the International Living Future Institute. This plan outlines the future vision of The Ecology School’s entire campus. Currently, only the dormitory and dining commons are being built in accordance to the Living Building Challenge, another program of the International Living Futures Institute.

“The Living Community Challenge is a framework for master planning, design, and construction. It is a tool to create a symbiotic relationship between people and all aspects of the built environment. The program is a call to action to governments, campuses, planners, developers and neighborhood groups to create communities that are as connected and beautiful as a forest.” - Living Community Challenge

“The Ecology School has laid out a truly inspiring vision that demonstrates its commitment to a Living Future and we look forward to seeing it unfold. The school has also shown bold leadership in not only setting itself the goal of certification under the world’s highest performance standard for regenerative community development, but also in being the very first to achieve the important milestone of Vision and Master Plan compliance. Thank you for leading the way!” -Kathleen Smith, NCARB, LFA, LEED Fellow VP Living Building Challenge + Living Community Challenge
