Free Pizza! Celebrate Worldwide Community Bake Day at River Bend Farm

Celebrate Community Bake Day at River Bend Farm! Fresh, handmade pizza will be served hot out of the oven by Chef Rich O‘Brien from Pangea Food Services/Papa’s Roadhouse/The Ecology School Food Master. Grab a slice (or two…or three…) and enjoy while sitting on the farm porch, overlooking the Saco River during peak fall foliage. Quite the lunch break!

At The Ecology School, we teach more than 3,000 students who pass through our Residential Programs each year the importance of food as community. Meals are an opportunity to connect with each other and understand the systems that put food on our plates. The three pillars of our Food Systems education: Food is Energy, Food is Ecology, and Food is Community.

One of our goals, here at The Ecology School, is to empower students to make healthy choices and become empowered citizens of healthy communities and active stewards in protecting healthy ecosystems. Our move to River Bend Farm will give us the ability to immerse students in the entire food system process from sowing seed to harvesting crops to preparing healthy food to share during family-style meals. And all of this will be done with a passionate commitment to improving the soil and cultivating biodiversity on the acreage we steward.

Worldwide Community Bake Day was created to inspire and empower people to come together and share baking traditions around the world. They believe that these community connections can foster creative economies, entrepreneurial growth and the revitalization of town centers. The Ecology School is grateful to our community organizer of this day, the Maine Grain Alliance.
